“Stonecroft” is a shingle-style home of five bedrooms and 3 1/2 bathrooms located on the banks of Frenchman Bay. The home sits on 1 1/2 half private acres, just steps from a scenic cove. An available mooring allows easy exploration of these waters by boat. From Stonecroft’s south-facing deck, one overlooks the cove, with the mountains of Acadia National Park beyond.

Stonecroft’s kitchen has a sunny breakfast nook and eating counter, and connects to a formal dining room.  The living room features a wood-burning fireplace and a piano.  Upstairs, four bedrooms (most with water views) sleep seven adults and children comfortably. The master suite occupies its own quiet wing on the ground floor.

Activities available include boating of all types, beachcombing and exploring. Through the town, one has access to tennis courts, a fresh-water pool with sun deck (adjacent to the home), and sailing lessons. A public, nine-hole golf course is just a mile away. Acadia National Park offers mountain climbing and dramatic shorelines. The town of Ellsworth is a commercial center, and 25 minutes away.

From its hilltop setting,  this large summer “cottage” offers privacy, water views, and easy access to the bay. A deck wraps around two sunny sides of the home and includes a spacious veranda ideal for gatherings. The living room features a fireplace and piano. The dining room table seats ten.

Three bedrooms upstairs sleep seven — a master bedroom with half-bath, a single, and a third bedroom with two bunk beds.  A newly renovated full bath also serves the upstairs.

A washer, dryer, and half-bathroom are located on the first floor. Also there, a screened, outdoor alcove off the kitchen can be used as a breakfast nook and/or sleep room.

A sleep cabin on the property is also available. The cabin has a double futon and furniture, but no bathroom. Adjacent to the cabin, an outdoor, hot-water shower is a favorite for those returned from swimming, tennis or boating.

Golf, Tennis, Swimming Pool & Sailing Lessons:

Through the Village Improvement Association, membership for a week, month, or summer allows access to all activities, except the golf course, for which membership is not required.

Bonnie Blinks, an exquisite, nine-hole course, lies on the banks of Flanders Bay about three miles from the homes.

Mountain Hikes:

Schoodic Mountain – Hike either the Ranger trail or the granite face to the top for a picnic lunch and summit blueberry picking. Then down the backside to Donnell Pond for a swim in the fresh clear water. The key to the hike-swim combo is dropping a shuttle car at the pond in advance, or a volunteer from the group walking down the Ranger trail and driving to the pond.

Mt. Desert has a variety of choices. We recommend a climb followed by either ice-cream satiation at one of the harbor villages. Also, a visit to the Jordan Pond House for popovers and jam.

One favorite climb is the Precipice Trail to the top of Mt. Champlain. Release your inner alpinist on this cliff trail, where fabulous views await. To return, choose the scenic descent toward Sand Beach (longer), or the pleasant trail to the parking lot.

Kayaking, Boating & Sailing:

Frenchman Bay is a wonderland of wild and beautiful places. Islands, beaches, meadows, tide pools, rocky cliffs, and secret chasms wait to be discovered. Eagles and porpoises may keep you company along the way.

Night out:

Try Tidal Falls restaurant for the required lobster/seafood dinner (BYOB). Dine indoors or outside. The grounds slope to white-water rapids that change direction with the tide. Make it on a full-moon evening for a luminous experience. Save room for the great blueberry pie. BYOB.

“Ledge” and “Stonecroft” sit near the crest of a hill commanding a scenic cove on lovely Frenchman Bay. Sorrento is approximately one hour from Acadia National Park and Bangor airport. Lying between busy Bar Harbor and the more serene Schoodic Peninsula, Sorrento gives visitors the best of both worlds.
